Advertising - Advertising with YouTube

With so many people spending time at home and looking for something to do, they are turning their attention to YouTube. YouTube is a fantastic source of information which is presented in a visual format. Providing information visually over written appeals to a broader audience. The same way a story book doesn’t have the same appeal a television show does.

To gain revenue to pay its YouTubers, adverts are now fed inline to the videos with a minimum of a 10 Seconds viewing before a user can skip. Much like Adwords, a business owner can bid for key words which your ideal customer would use to find your business.

10 seconds to impress

The skip window becomes an option after 10 seconds which means you need to impress the viewer, so they watch till the end. Our first goal was to get the bulk of The Gutter and Cladding Company's message into 10 seconds. Rather than looking at this like a movie, we saw it as an ad. This is us and this is what we do.

We took the product which was their online quoter and broke it down into 6 Unique Selling Points.

  • Soffits

  • Gutters

  • Fascias

  • Cladding

  • Windows

  • Doors

They were then split into 2 connected categories.

  • Fascias, Soffits and Gutters

  • Cladding, Windows and Doors

Using our archive of images, we selected images which showed close ups, beauty shots and a collective of those categories together. After a preliminary layout we were able to achieve introducing the company logo and the two categories without it feeling rushed or missing the point.

We then hit on the overall USPs:

- Online Visualiser

- Local showroom

- Fleet of vans

Keeping the attention

Rather than just dropping images and words in, a more dynamic feel needs to be applied to keep the viewers attention. Starting on the opener and using Adobe After Effects we drew a path around the logo. Using hand animation we applied a chasing stroke. This was then made into a replaying composition and then replicated across the page.

Animation was applied to the wording as well including motion animation, 3D and blurring to increase the dynamic feel.

For music we had intended to use a 30 second string , however our client had an unused radio which they wanted to use instead. This did require a move around of the layout but we were still able to keep the punch inside the 10 second mark. The advert is now ready for its debut.
